Sawmill Creek Resort {Review}

On our recent media tour to Sandusky, Ohio, we were booked to stay at the Sawmill Creek Resort. What a beautiful place to stay, whether you’re traveling for business or for pleasure. Not only does it have great rooms to stay in, it also offers golfing, shopping, restaurants on site and more!

Arriving at Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron/Sandusky, Ohio, you immediately sense something special. Nestled on the shores of Lake Erie, The Lodge, 18-hole Tom Fazio Golf Course, Marina and Shops are set on 235 –acres of affordable luxury. The Lodge features 240 deluxe guest rooms and suites, creative cuisine at Salmon Run Restaurant with patio dining, casual fare in Trappers Deli, indoor and outdoor pools, game room and casual lobby sitting rooms with decor themed to reflect the North American Woodland Indian. Step out of the Lodge to experience the lakefront beach, tennis, and the Sawmill Creek Shops. Stroll down to the marina on Lake Erie or enjoy Sheldon Marsh Nature Preserve, representing some of the last remaining undeveloped stretches of shoreline in the Sandusky Bay region. After a round of golf or lesson with the Pro, enjoy a casual lunch or dinner at Mulligan’s Pub covered deck offering views of the pond on the 9th green. Head for the marina to the award winning Mariner’s Dockside Restaurant overlooking the Lake and the176-slip marina. The screened patio is a pleasant dining option on a warm summer evening.

Complimenting the Resort campus is a wide range of flexible meeting space with a highly trained staff to handle a multitude of decisions and details to assure a successful meeting, conference, convention, trade shows, teambuilding, executive retreats and family reunions at this premier Ohio Lake Erie destination. If wedding bells are in your future, Sawmill Creek Resort offers spectacular and unique settings on the lakefront for a truly memorable day.

When we stay overnight at a hotel, there’s two main things I look for, traveling as a family. Safety and being clean. I don’t mind old but I have to know we’re safe and the room is clean. And I think Sawmill Creek Resort definitely took care of both of those concerns.

Our room was a nice size with two double beds, a pull out couch, plus a good size business desk/counter and a fireplace. It was too hot for a fire, but that would have been awesome in the cooler months I think. The bathroom was very clean (thank you staff!) and we definitely put it to good use between the kids, teenagers and adults coming and going after the pool, the gym, and spending hours exploring the local area.

Another feature of the resort I liked was having several places to eat, right on site, without having to get back in the car and find somewhere for a meal. There is a range of places from upscale (Salmon Run Restaurant) to the Trappers Deli and the Black Bear Saloon. We chose to eat at the Salmon Run, but we actually ordered off their menu and the menu for Black Bear, so we got to try several different types of meals!

The hit of the night was probably the granola crusted baked brie cheese, served with grapes, crackers, apples and honey. Even though it was an appetizer, we all agreed we could just all order a plate of that and have been satisfied LOL

But you can find everything from a delicious steak dinner, to seafood and pasta, or even soup and sandwiches, whatever your crew is in the mood for. Some of the places aren’t open year round, so be sure you call first before you head to grab a bite.

If you have a golf fan in the group, you may not see them much. There’s a awesome (I’m told) 18 hole golf course surrounding the Lodge. Whether you need to rent clubs, get lessons, or just want to have fun with your buddies, it’s an impressive variety of challenging holes that make up this Tom Fazio golf course.

And for the ladies, there are shops right on the property! Whether you’re looking for clothes, jewelry, books, local trinkets, or even gourmet kitchen items, you can find them all in one place at the Sawmill Creek Shops, located up at the front near the lobby and restaurants.

Sawmill Creek Resort also has great packages available for business conferences, family reunions, and weddings! Having everything all at the same location would sure make planning those events a lot easier.

The Sawmill Creek Resort is definitely a nice place to visit and stay at, whether you’re in town for Cedar Point, want to golf, or want to host an event like a wedding or a conference. Be sure to also check out their specials and packages they offer for a good deal. Plus, follow them on Facebook for all the latest information.
